we are here, in Pilisszentlászló
In Pilisszentlászló, a little village in a protected forest near Budapest, the Kékvölgy Waldorf Iskola - Blue Valley Steiner School was established in 2003 by 40 families and a few young teachers. In the following years, a nursery school, a music school, and a high school were added.
In the year 2010/2011 the school counts 180 pupils, 26 teachers and 6 co-workers. The present first grade is located in an office-container and the 3rd grade in the previous gymnastics-room, both emergency solutions chosen in lack of founds having been recently prohibited by the authorities.
Governmental funding covers less than 40% of our 374.000 euro budget for this year. Over 196.000 euro comes from the 117 families of the school requiring big efforts and constant social awareness to support each-other in case of need.
The parents also ensure the school's operations with their regular community work. From the weekly cleaning to painting the classrooms, making furniture or replacing windows, everything is carried out by our community. Year by year, the school has attracted more and more families. With 30 new kids arriving in September's first grade this year over 200 students will attend and 3 classrooms are missing!

vision and project
You must be the change you want to see in the world!"
Mahatma Gandhi
We have a vision for the future. We imagine a new type of society, based on community strength and solidarity. We believe that a strong and compassionate world will be built by open, self-confident and healthy people. Our school is committed to raising this very type of children.
We have decided to build a new school. With no help from the government or local authorities.
We have already purchased a plot overlooking the hills. We plan an incremental construction, composed of 4 pavilions of 4 classrooms each, built over 5 years. Planning, implementation, financial supervision and part of the construction will almost exclusively be carried out by the families who volunteer their physical labor and professional experience. Environmentally conscious education and the protection of nature is at the center of our concern.
The construction of the first pavilion will take place in the summer of 2011.
The budget of this first phase is 130.000.000 HUF, that is: 490.000 Euro or 698.000 USD
The incredible dedication, motivation and strength of this community makes our goal realistic!
